MINK, SEPIA & SOLID Cherubim RAGDOLLS 

They are not a new breed of Ragdoll, they are the same amazing cat wrapped in a different paint job! 

Where did the Cherubim come from?

The history of the Cherubim is intertwined with the history of the Ragdoll itself.

The Ragdoll was developed by Ann Baker in Riverside, California during the 1960s. Her original breeding program was broader than only the blue-eyed pointed Ragdoll that eventually became the internationally familiar version of the breed.

Importantly, the name Cherubim also has historical connections to Ann Baker's original breeding program. It isn't simply a modern name invented for Mink and Sepia Ragdolls.

Over time, mainstream Ragdoll standards became centred around the blue-eyed pointed Ragdoll. Mink, Sepia and Solid cats continued within Ragdoll breeding programs, but their different colour genetics meant they didn't fit within the traditional Ragdoll Championship standard.

This eventually led to the modern Ragdoll and Cherubim breed-group structure. International Recognition During 2023 and 2024, The International Cat Association (TICA) considered a formal pathway for Mink, Sepia and Solid Ragdoll-line cats.

On 5 November 2023, an informal survey was circulated regarding the proposed breed name.

On 6 November 2023, the proposal establishing the Ragdoll/Cherubim breed-group structure was completed. Following further consideration during 2024, the proposal progressed through the recognition process.

On 21 April 2024, the New Traits Advancement Poll closed.

On 19 May 2024, the TICA Board of Directors unanimously approved the advancement. This formally established Ragdoll (RD) and Cherubim (CB) together within the Ragdoll Breed Group.

From 1 May 2025, Cherubims became eligible for Championship competition within TICA.

Cherubims in Australia –

Before their recognition as Cherubims, Australian National Cats Inc. (ANCATS)  registered  Mink, Sepia & Solids as: AOC Ragdolls – Any Other Colour Ragdolls.  They were fully registered pedigree cats and could be exhibited at ANCATS cat shows. However, because they were classified as AOC Ragdolls, they could not accumulate points towards Championship titles.

ANCATS are still the only registry in Australia who recognises, registers and allows these beautiful cats to be shown. 

Cherubim Recognition in Australia.  In 2026, ANCATS began registering these cats under their recognised name: CHERUBIM.  This means the cats previously registered as AOC Ragdolls are now registered with ANCATS as Cherubims. More importantly, Cherubims can now be shown and compete for Championship titles with ANCATS. For breeders like Fluffyrags who have bred and exhibited these colours for many years, this was an incredibly important milestone.

The cats didn't change. Their ancestry didn't change. Their Ragdoll type didn't change.

Their recognition changed!!

We didn't suddenly start breeding a new breed in 2026. We were already breeding them. ANCATS was already registering them. We were already showing them. Our pedigrees already documented their Ragdoll ancestry. What changed in 2026 was their official classification and their ability to achieve titles.

What Colours Are Cherubims?

Cherubim doesn't simply mean a “Mink Ragdoll”.

Cherubims encompass the beautiful: Mink,  Sepia &  Solid lines

These colour expressions produce some spectacular differences in coat and eye colour.

Cherubims come in the same beautiful patterns that people recognise in Ragdolls.

POINT Colour is concentrated around the face, ears, legs and tail without the white patterning of a Mitted or Bicolour.

MITTED The classic Mitted pattern, including those beautiful white feet and characteristic white markings.

BICOLOUR The much-loved Bicolour pattern with its characteristic white facial pattern and additional white throughout the body.

SOLID Have full colour expression rather than the temperature-sensitive pointed colour distribution.

This means you may see Cherubims described as:

Blue Mink Point
Blue Mink Mitted
Blue Mink Bicolour
Seal Sepia Point
Seal Sepia Mitted
Seal Sepia Bicolour ........and many other beautiful colours and pattern combinations.

So, Is a Cherubim Still a Ragdoll?

The easiest way we explain it is: Same heritage. Same beautiful breed type. Same patterns. Different colour restriction genetics. A newly recognised name.

Traditional blue-eyed pointed cats continue to be registered as Ragdolls. The Mink, Sepia and Solid cats previously registered by ANCATS as AOC Ragdolls are now registered as Cherubims. Together, they represent the beautiful diversity of the Ragdoll breed family.
